Criminal Investigations

Responsibilities

All of our officers investigate their own cases, including follow-ups and the creation of arrest/detention orders.  When more in-depth cases are reported (I.E. Sexual or Aggravated Assaults, Crimes involving children or the elderly, etc.) our police Captain helps in the process to make sure that all the appropriate steps are taken and that each case reaches its proper disposition.  Not only is the police Captain involved in the investigative process, the Captain also meets regularly with County and District Court personnel to ensure that cases are thorough and properly prepared for trial.

The police department also staffs an Evidence Technician who primarily focuses on our Evidence Repository which entails how we collect, process and retain items that are collected at crime scenes.  This position and process ensures an unbroken chain of custody concerning people’s personal property and/or any item which may be used for prosecution purposes.  The Evidence Technician deals directly with the State’s facilities for the testing of physical evidence (Texas Department of Public Safety) and makes sure that items are both sent and collected according to required protocols.
